At St Augustine’s School, we value harnessing the effectiveness of technology to encourage and engage students and to innovate and inspire effective learning. We are dedicated to ensuring that students at St Augustine’s are exposed to and use current technology in all aspects of school experiences.
Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard. These are integrated into all learning areas to assist students with hands on learning and provide an interactive and visual experience for students.
Ipads are used in reading groups, numeracy groups and in other Key Learning Areas to engage students in learning.
Digital Cameras and Flip Cameras are used for recording events for the school and for the children to take their own photos and videos for use in creating Powerpoint and Photostory presentations.
Each class has several computers which are used in all Key Learning Areas and are part of the school curriculum. In addition to these computers, each class has enough netbooks (laptops) for at least one between two children. These are incorporated in a wide range of ways into the daily routine of the class. Some examples of the ways in which the netbooks are utilised each day include spelling activities, flipcharts for revision of sight words, learning about and creating Powerpoint and PhotoStory presentations, interactive literacy and numeracy activities, web based research, self reflection blogs, word processing, art creation and manipulation through computer programs and digital photography, as well as access to a variety of educational websites.
Here are some examples of websites that the children use in the classroom. The children can click on these links to practice their work at home.
Spelling City – many classes use this website as a great resource for assisting the children to learn their spelling words each week. It provides an efficient game-based study of literacy skills using word lists created by the class teacher. Each student has a username and 4 letter password that they can use to access this site.
Arcademic Skill Builders – this is a great site with lots of general skill building activities for the children in a variety of subject areas. Arcademic Skill Builders are online educational video games that offer a powerful approach to learning basic math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills.
